Meet the Directioners: The Superfans of One Direction

In case you’ve been living under a rock these past few months, One Direction is the UK boyband that’s taken the world by storm: discovered on The X Factor, hand-picked by Simon Cowell, and with an album that debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. charts (a feat not even the Beatles accomplished). They are one band, made up of five boys, and yet there are nearly half a million Tumblr blogs devoted to their every move. So what does it take to be a One Direction superfan? What is it about these boys from small towns in Britain (and one in Ireland) — Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, and Liam Payne — that drives so many girls wild? Every day this week, Storyboard will delve into the depths of teen hysteria to find out. (Plus we got an interview with the band.)
